South Branch Trail Camp

South Branch Trail Camp 9-18 to 9-22-08

We are on Site #3, $15.00 a nite, at South Branch Trail Camp, Hale MI. Holly and I drove up Thursday after work, took us about 2 ½ hours to get here. Gas up here is 4.19 a gallon. Thursday night we got camp set up, visited with Jim and Carol from Davison, then hit the sack about 10. We were pretty tired. We got up at 7 on Friday, fed the horses, had breakfast and headed out the trail towards McKinely. What a beautiful ride we had. It took us about 3 ½ hours to ride to the Corner store in Curtisville. We had a sub sandwich there, nice place to tie up. The ride back took us about 3 hours, we trotted more, and didn’t make any rest stops. Levi was beat when we got back. Holly started a fire and we had dinner, sloppy joes, then showers!! I fired up the generator to run the hair dryer! Ha. We are sitting be the campfire now, then will head into bed.

Saturday the 20th. We got up about 7:45, had breakfast and drove over to Dave & Carol’s. We had a coffee with them, and then Emily came back to camp with us and we rode. We went towards Mckinely camp , rode for about 4 hrs. We had a great time. Holly and I pumped water for the horses, then made our dinner, spaghetti! Yum! While I was gone today, Holly started the generator and charged up the trailer, phones, and laptops! She ran it for about an hour and a half. We had a thunderstorm roll thru about 5, really rained, but clearing off and supposed to be sunny and in the 60’s tomorrow.

Dave, Carol, Emily, Mya and Jennifer(Carol’s friend) all came over about 7 for a campfire. It would not stop raining, so we sat under the awning, ate snacks and had fun reminiscing about 4H. We sure did laugh a lot. I wish Julie could have been here to chime in! We finally sacked out about 11.
Sunday we got up about 7:15, and headed out to the trail at 9:30. We rode out the end of camp, circled around to the river, then rode the river trail up to the blue trail. Took us about 2 hours. Dave and the crew came over at noon, Mya had fun riding Colonel around the campground. After they left, we cooked our dinner, steaks on the grill, potatoes and green beans, so good!!! We then drove over to Old Orchard park, about 15 miles away. We stopped at Lumberman’s Monument. Got back here about 4 and went out for another 2 hour ride. We rode across Rollway Rd, up to the VFW hall, only about 30 minutes or so. Pretty over there, lots of sand two tracks. We ran into a couple of older ladies on a 4 wheeler with their dogs in a crate, too funny. We came back to

camp, got showers , washed Levi, and plan to hang at the fire tonight . We will head back home in the morning! What a great weekend we have had! On our way out on Monday morning, the DNR were moving uprooted pine trees by helicopter into the Ausable river. They are placed in the river for the fish to nest in. We were able to catch a glimpse of one of the copters crossing the road!
